Mr B wanted to make me a green smoothie… I do all the cooking and run a tight ship in the kitchen. It was a nice thought on Mr B’s account, and I do appreciate it (I do, babyface).
He showed me Joe Rogan’s Kale Shake. My first thought was – there’s a lot greens and only one piece of fruit? And a whole lot of blending. Hmmmm… curious.
We went to the Clontarf Farmer’s Markets on Manning Road to buy all the ingredients. Got home and then Mr B watched the Youtube vid of Joe Rogan making the shake so he could make it exactly the same.
The shake was not pleasant. Very bitter and too warm from too much blending. I couldn’t drink it and I think Mr B was a bit disappointed 🙁 BUT – I decided to juice it and add in some raw honey! It was saved.
I actually like this combo as a juice, not as a smoothie and with more fruit. This would be my juice version.
What you will need:
- 4 apples or pears
- Half a cucumber
- 3 kale leaves (to start – add more if the juice is too sweet)
- 3 stalks of celery
- Half a lemon
- 1-inch piece of ginger
Put all bits and pieces through the juicer.
Taste it. If it’s too bitter, add more apple or pear. If too sweet, add more kale/celery/lemon.
This juice was enjoyed by Miss P and I.
Moral of the story – some combinations are better as juices than as smoothies! It’s up to you to experiment. Have fun 🙂
