There’s this new alternative therapy that’s taking the world by storm… It’s known as floating or floatation tank therapy or sensory deprivation in an isolation tank. Joe Rogan swears by this therapy 😛
There are two places in Perth that provide this service, but the main one is located in the city. It’s called Beyond Rest.
The other location is Floatation Rejuventation Centre. I haven’t been here before but when I tried to make a booking for 2 people, they told me they only had 1 tank. And it’s also out in the hills, so it’s a bit of a hike – unless you live out that way.
I have only had 3 sessions so far, which were all in 2013 – I have yet to go this year.
There are many benefits to this therapy which include:
- Improved Sleep
- Stress Relief
- Pain Relief
- Energise & Revitalise
- Promotes Total Calm & Peaceful Relaxation
- Creates Mental Clarity & Alertness
For more benefits, visit Beyond Rest’s website.
The contraption you float in is a float tank. It is filled with an epsom salt mixture 25cm deep. The water is skin temperature 35.5 degrees celsius.
Beyond Rest’s facilities are first class (well, I think so) – you get your own room with the floatation tank. There is a shower – you have to shower before you get into the tank and then afterwards (because you will have the salty mixture all over you!). And you go into the float tank naked as well. But the amount of epsom salts in the tank kills all the germs and they go through a filtration process after each use, I believe.
I don’t recommend this if you are claustrophobic or afraid of the dark or have issues with your ears. Because it is in an enclosed space and it is dark when the blue light inside goes out. And water does get into your ears. But it is still an awesome experience.
If you are intrigued, I suggest you check it out. A single float at Beyond Rest is $79 for an hour. If you really like it, then you can buy the packages and go regularly.
That reminds me, I should book a float soon 😛
