I really did have good intentions. Really. Sadly, Juice Cleansing/Fasting isn’t for me.
In June, I ordered a 2 day juice cleanse from Made Juice. I got the Made for Detox cleanse.
I received my delivery on a Wednesday evening in an awesome reusable cooler bag! Inside the bag sat 12 bottles of juice goodness! All bottles were 500mls.
I started the cleanse the next day (Thursday), but before I had my first juice, I did a coffee enema when I woke up.
I followed up the coffee enema with the first drink, which was a green juice. I packed juices #2 to #4 with me to take to work.
I got into work a little after noon, felt a little hungry, so I had my second juice, which was the lemon one.
I think was feeling a little hungry, my stomach was grumbling. I decided to drink some water. This helped a little.
Now, at my place of employment, we have a canteen. And the lovely lady that runs it, she makes some delicious hot food for lunches. Anything from beef and veggie soup, seafood stew and on this particular day, she made penne bolognaise. My colleagues decide to eat their lunch in our room which left me salivating, oh it smelt so good. Please note, I don’t eat pasta. Rarely. The last time I ate it was in Freiburg, Germany sometime in January this year.
I soldiered onto my third juice, which was the same green one as before. The green juices had kale, apple, romaine, parsley, lemon, cucumber, ginger, celery.
Seriously, drinking so many liquids made me go to the toilet way too much for my liking.
Then 4pm rolled around… I had to get out of there. All I had on my mind was FOOD. I’ve never felt this way before and I intermittent fast on a regular basis!
As soon as I got home, I ate. I had to. I also had my 4th juice (green one, again). By this time, I was really tired of the green juice taste in my mouth. I lovingly shared the rest of the juice with my lovebum. Which he thoroughly enjoyed.
What did I learn from this failed juice cleanse attempt?
There are different ways to fast, cleanse and detox.
One way does not suit all (same as eating style).
My body definitely does not tolerate so much fruit sugars well. I’m a protein and fat girl. Yep.
And some people thrive from juice fasts/cleanses and if you are one, that is awesome. If you are not, don’t fear, there are other ways you can cleanse and you can cleanse from eating whole foods.
There is no better way than the other. It’s about what suits YOUR body.
